I received this question:
I am wondering what your thoughts would be for my daughter regarding Latin. She is currently taking Latin 1B through the Lukeion Project (Wheelock’s Latin). She’s has a high B average. She would like to continue Latin studies with someone else and she really enjoyed your Harry Potter seminar and the sample videos of your Visual Latin course. What would you suggest she take based on the classes you have available? Thanks in advance!
Here is my reply:
Hi!
I offer several Latin classes. Every year I take my students through my favorite Latin book, Lingua Latina by Hans Ørberg. it’s tough, but since your daughter has already been through some of Wheelock’s Latin, she would be fine, I am sure.
I also offer a Latin class with the famous (and rather boring) Henle Latin. I only recommend this class for students in classical conversations.
Of course these days, it doesn’t matter. I have set my site up as a subscription site. Now students can join every single class I teach for one subscription rate.
This fall, I will be teaching Latin 1, 2, and 3, Greek 1, and 2, and a vocabulary class, or two. I will also likely be adding a National Latin Exam class as well as an “Italian from Latin” class.
Back to your original question. If you can choose a Latin class, go with Lingua Latina by Hans Ørberg.
Let me know if you need more help!
Have a happy Thursday!
