I received this very common question:

I need help deciding where my daughter needs to be in Latin. She has been in Henle Latin since Challenge A. She is now in challenge 1 and has done Henle for 3 years. But she still is struggling. She enjoys learning Latin but I have not done a good job teaching her. She’s dyslexic and could use a boost of confidence. I’ve been considering putting her in Henle first year Latin One more year using your Latin class. What are your thoughts?  Thank you for any wisdom you can share.

Here is my reply:

I see this so often, I am almost convinced it is not you, nor is it your daughter.  It’s the book.  I see emails like yours every single day.

In fact, my wife has suggested I stop teaching the Henle Latin series… for my own mental health.  I am not kidding.  I thought seriously of doing just that.  I am not sure teaching the series is worth it.  I only keep going to help people like you.

The solution is easy.  Switch to Lingua Latina by Hans Ørberg.  It’s a novel, written completely in Latin and it is absolutely enjoyable.

I have taught Lingua Latina for over ten years, and those classes are up on my site.  You have access to them 24/7.  They will help when you get stuck.  To find those classes, just go here: https://dwanethomas.com/previous-classes-4/.

And, if you are interested, I am taking students through the exercises right now.  We meet every morning for a half hour.  We are in chapter 15 at the moment, but anyone is welcome to jump in anytime.  The link to class is on this page: https://dwanethomas.com/live-classes/

Let me know if you need more help!

Hope you are having a great day!
