I spend a lot of time writing.
Six days a week, I write tests for my site. Spanish, French, Latin, and German tests. I’ve also begun writing tests for the Word up! series.
Then, there is the Tip of the Week and I’m currently writing a book on goals.
In college, I should have majored in typing. I type for hours. Every day, but Sunday. If I could go back in time, I’d slap myself for not taking typing class seriously.
When it comes to writing, in my opinion, the most important skill is consistency. Staple your pants to the chair and write day after day. It adds up.
Writing is not as easy as I’d hoped it would be. Not for me, anyway. For me, writing is a chore. Maybe it’s because I have to type. Anyway, whenever I am writing, I am easily distracted. Because I want to be.
To stay focused I often play music in the background. Not just any music, of course. I don’t think I could type to the Devil went down to Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band.
The music I listen to while writing is usually lyric-free. These days, I am listening to a lot of soundtracks. My current favorites are Pirates of the Caribbean, Batman begins, and Gladiator.
Here’s an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttZ1zQqMY6U
Soundtracks are easy to find. Just go to YouTube and search for your favorite soundtrack. It’s likely there.
Some of the soundtracks are loops. They last for hours. Keeps me focused. If you are a writer, give it a shot. May keep you focused.
