I received this question:
Do you have the class schedule for Latin in the fall? Also, does how much of your Lingua Latina 1 class equate to Henle 1? We are in Classical Conversations and my daughter really struggles remembering the vocabulary and doing the charts. We will be in Challenge One next year and I’d like to switch to LL. Challenge One finishes the Henle 1 book so I’m wondering if doing LL1 will actually put her behind.
Here is my reply:
Here is what I will be teaching next year.
This is very likely going to happen… but, as always, the schedule is subject to change. Having said that, I try very, very hard not to change my schedule once I post it. I know some of you are counting on me showing up when I say I am going to show up.
So, here goes.
I will be running with my girls three days a week during cross country season. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from Augustish to Octoberish. After cross country, I may adjust my schedule. If I do, the early morning classes will meet daily, six days a week.
So, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings:
- 5:30 AM New Testament Greek
- 6:00 AM Spanish
- 6:30 AM French
- 7:00 AM Italian
Tuesday and Thursday mornings:
- 9:00 am Henle 3
- 10:00 am Henle 2
- 11:00 am Henle 1 (I hope to be done with Henle Latin 1 as I will continue teaching it over the summer. In that case, I will replace Henle 1 with Lingua Latina).
You do not have to come to the live classes. I generally load the classes into my site an hour after I teach. I upload 30 – 40 new classes a week. If I wait to long to upload classes, the process overwhelms me. So, generally, classes are up within the hour.
Currently, there are 17 classes with around 1,700 videos all arranged by units. In other words, you could go from beginning Latin to advanced Latin easily on my site. Soon, I will be able to say the same about Greek, Italian, French and Spanish.
There are also forums for each class. In the forums students can interact with each other and ask questions.
It looks like I will not be teaching Lingua Latina live next year. However, a student could go through the entire course on my site as the classes are up, and I plan to leave them up. Students could also practice with each other (and me) via the forums.
Lingua Latina propels kids far beyond Henle Latin. First Year Latin by Robert Henle teaches kids 497 words. Lingua Latina teaches kids almost 2,000. Lingua Latina is by far the superior book. And, it’s actually enjoyable. It’s a novel.
Fortunately, on my site, you don’t have to choose.
I only charge per family… not per student, and not per class. A subscription grants access to every live class I teach. It also grants access to all of the previous class on my site.
Let me know if you need more help!
