Tip of the Week: Turn Any Article into Audio—Listen While You Work!

by | Jan 24, 2026

Sometimes, while reading long articles online, I find myself wanting to do something else at the same time—like clean my desk.

Turns out, there is a way.  You can listen to articles online.

The Read Aloud Chrome extension lets you listen to articles, stories, and online texts with one click.  The Read Aloud extension works on Chrome and Brave. I’m not sure whether it works in other browsers.

The voice sounds a bit robotic, but it still gets the job done.

Install it here:

If you can’t stand the robotic voice, and want a more human-sounding voice instead, check out Natural Readers: https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/

Natural Readers works directly in your browser without an extension. It also lets you switch between different voices.

The free version gives you five minutes per day.  After that, you need a subscription.

Just so you know, I am not an affiliate of either company.  Just sharing with you something I found helpful this week.

What I am watching: Last night I watched Hustle, starring Adam Sandler.  I like inspiring movies and was hoping for something I could recommend.  Sadly, I can’t really recommend the movie since the language was rather vile.  Mostly because of a few characters.  Still, I found the story inspiring.  Won’t watch it again, though.

Last week, I watched F1 with my wife, son and one of my daughters.  That movie, I do recommend.  I found it very inspiring.  It, too, contained too much foul language (in my opinion).  Nonetheless, I found the story worth it.  I’d watch it again.

What I am reading these days: I read more in the summer.  During the school year, I am bogged down in language books.  Mostly, what I am reading these days is a book I am writing/editing myself.  For years, I have waited for someone to create a Spanish book like Lingua Latina, the Latin book written by Hans Ørberg.  I’ve waited long enough.  Now, I am just going to write it myself… with a lot of technical help from the team at Compass Classroom.  I don’t have a title for it, yet.  But, that is mostly what I am reading these days.

Almost every Saturday, I send out a Tip of the Week.  The tip of the week is usually something I have picked up along the way that may make your life a little easier.

If you would like to hear from me (almost) every Saturday, just go to the home page of my site and plug in your name and email.   You will also get a free digital copy of my book on learning Latin (and almost anything else).  Just go here: https://dwanethomas.com/ and enter your name and email.

If you want to buy the digital book instead (because you just feel like buying me a cup of coffee) go here: https://dwanethomas.gumroad.com/l/fzixlh

If you are interested in learning Latin, you can go through the classes on my site 24/7.  I recommend the book Lingua Latina by Hans Ørberg.

If you tackle the book and find yourself bogged down, you may find the classes on my site helpful.  To join, just click here: https://dwanethomas.com/join/

If you want a more professionally filmed Latin learning experience, check out the best-selling DVD series: Visual Latin.

Or, if you want to skip Latin, and just jump right into learning English words from Latin and Greek roots, you may enjoy the series Word Up!  Warning.   Word Up! is a bit wacky.  You will learn a lot… but, you may find yourself rolling your eyes, too.

I teach other languages on my site, too.  The current schedule is here: https://dwanethomas.com/schedule/
