I received this question:
“My girls are working on Visual Latin 1 this year and enjoying it. I’m a little worried about next year and VL 2 as they are mostly following but I am noticing it getting a bit harder for them. If they enrolled in one of your online classes which would they do assuming they finish all of VL 1 this year?”
Here is my reply:
Sigh. Latin. It really is tough. And, I am afraid it is going to get tougher. Do not be afraid to slow down. Some students spread Visual Latin out over three years. Also, do not be afraid to repeat if your girls don’t understand the first time. I cannot tell you how many times I have read, and re-read the same Greek and Latin books. I am a slow learner. It takes me a long time to learn something new and something difficult.
If your girls get stuck, have them email me. I am happy to help.
As for the online classes, I always recommend Lingua Latina for Latin. Latin is a mountain. Unfortunatley, there is no easy way up the mountain. But, there are better ways up the mountain. Lingua Latina is a story. It is a novel. It is full of characters the students can connect with as they climb the mountain.
I also offer an online class that goes through Henle Latin. I offer this mostly for students in the Classical Conversations tutorials. Henle Latin is dull. It gets the job done. But, it is dull. There is a better way up the mountain. Lingua Latina is the better way.
All of my “live online classes” are fast and furious. It is better students go through Visual Latin first. This give them a good headstart before they join an online class. The online classes are tough.
Of course, if you do join an online class and find it is over the heads of your girls, you are welcome to a full refund, no questions asked. You are also welcome to repeat any class at no extra charge. Pay once, and repeat as often as you like.
Please let me know if you need any more help!
Thanks!
