Tip of the Week #334: How to Instantly stop a Shaving Cut
Cut yourself shaving?
My dad taught me this trick years ago: Keep a Styptic Pencil in your bathroom or travel bag.
The next time you nick yourself shaving, simply wet the tip and apply it directly to the cut. It’ll instantly seal the wound, stop the bleeding, and reduce irritation.
Warning: it will sting. Just let the sting remind you to slow down next time.
Rinse the pencil after use and let it air dry. They last a very long time.

After several years, I’m bringing Henle Latin back to the site!
This Fall, we will work our way through First Year Latin by Robert Henle.
Starting on September 2, we’ll meet Mondays through Thursdays from 10:00 to 10:30 AM Central Time Zone.
If you can’t make it to class, no worries. You can always watch class later at your own pace.
In class, we will work our way through the chapter topics, slowly and clearly. The book can be complicated, but I’ll explain everything in plain, simple English.
Along the way, we’ll learn the complicated Latin charts and Latin endings.
All the exercises for each chapter are already available, and students are welcome to watch them anytime.
If you’ve been meaning to start—or restart—Henle Latin, this could be your moment.
Fall schedule:
Here is what is coming in the fall of 2025. Subject to change, of course. But, I try hard not to change the schedule once it’s set. All times are in the Central Time Zone.
- Classes Resume: September 2, 2025
- Fall Break: October 13-17
- Thanksgiving Break: November 24-28
- Christmas/New Years: December 22-January 4
Classes coming Fall 2025:
🇩🇪 German 2: Monday-Friday 7:00-7:25 am. We are continuing with Deutsch Für Ausländer, Part One. In the spring, we stopped in chapter 15.
🇫🇷 French 1: Monday-Friday 7:30 – 7:55 am. We are starting in chapter one of Le Français par la Méthode Nature.
🏛️ Latin 4: Monday-Thursday 8:00-8:25 am. Continuing with Roma Aeterna by Hans Ørberg.
🇬🇷 Greek 1: Monday-Thursday 8:30-8:55 am. We are starting over with a mix of Logos and New Testament Greek by J. Gresham Machen.
🇪🇸 Spanish 2: Monday-Thursday 9:00-9:25 am. Continuing on in Madrigal’s Magic Key to Spanish. Last year we finished chapter 39. We will pick back up in chapter 40. Once we finish the book, we will read a novel and start watching shows in Spanish. I am still looking for something for us to read in Spanish, but we will likely start with El león, la bruja y el armario.
🇪🇸 Spanish 1: Monday-Thursday 9:30-9:55 am. This is a new class for those just starting in Spanish.
(Both Spanish classes are offered via Compass Classroom.). We will read Madrigal’s Magic Key to Spanish.
🏛️ Latin 1: First Year Latin by Robert Henle: Monday-Thursday 10:00-10:25 am. Students are welcome, and so are adults. We will focus on the grammar concepts in First Year Latin by Robert Henle.
