Tip of the Week #355: Over-Prepared Beats Under-Prepared
I live near Nashville, Tennessee. If you haven’t heard, a severe ice storm hit Nashville through a severe ice storm this week. Last weekend, a winter storm blanketed the city in ice. Hundreds of thousands of people lost power. Some are still without power.
Fortunately, my family did have power. We ended up hosting some friends.
I was reading through some Nashville updates when I stumbled across a helpful winter preparation list. Thought I would share the list with all of you.
Here’s a good list to keep ready for winter travel and cold-weather emergencies. I have linked to some of the specific recommendations.
Warmth: 0°-rated sleeping bags, proper layering, rain shell.
Fuel & Fire: Jetboil, lighter, waterproof matches
Hydration: Iodine tablets, LifeStraws, electrolytes
Food: Shelf-stable food and dehydrated meals
Power & Communication: Emergency communication device, solar chargers, battery packs
Visibility & Movement: Headlamps, extra batteries, crampons (I had to look this one up. I was not familiar with crampons.)
Health & Comfort: First aid, extra medication, hand sanitizer, wipes, deodorant, HotHands
And, of course, blanket and candles. Both can bring comfort on cold dark nights.
And… if you get bored without power, Lego sets are great. My wife put several together over the week.
