Ever find yourself typing your email address into your phone?  

I find the process annoying.  My email ends in dwanethomas.com.  Since my parents didn’t buy extra vowels, no one knows how to spell my name.  Duane.  Dwayne.  Dewayne.  The options are many.  

When people ask for my email it’s easier if I just text it.  But, then I have to text my email… which is a hassle.  

Here’s a simple productivity move: use autocorrect as a shortcut tool.

Instead of typing your full email every time, set up a custom autocorrect shortcut on your phone. For example, I’ve set mine so that whenever I double-tap @@, my full email address instantly appears as a text.

Takes about 30 seconds to set up, and saves time and frustration.  

Here’s how to do it on an iPhone and on an Android.   

iPhone (iOS)

1. Open Settings.

2. Tap General → Keyboard.

3. Tap Text Replacement.

4. Tap the + in the top-right.

5. In Phrase paste/type your full email address.

6. In Shortcut type your trigger (example @@).

7. Tap Save.

8. Test it in Messages or Notes by typing @@ — your email should expand.

Android — Gboard (Google Keyboard)

1. Open your phone’s Settings.

2. Go to System → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard → Gboard.
   (On some phones the path is Settings → Languages & input directly.)

3. Tap Dictionary → Personal dictionary.

4. Choose your language (or For all languages).

5. Tap the + to add a new entry.

6. In Phrase enter your full email address.

7. In Shortcut enter @@ (or another trigger).

8. Tap the back button to save.

9. Test in a text field by typing @@.
