Tip of the Week #358: Unlock a New Language – For Free

If you’re learning a new language and want to learn how it actually works — not just memorize tourist phrases — try Language Transfer.

I’ve used Language Transfer for years. I recommend it.  Language Transfer teaches you the structure and logic of a language. Instead of drilling vocabulary lists, you work through ideas step by step. You begin to see patterns. 

The lessons feel a bit like a tutoring session. You listen to a teacher guiding a student through simple conversations. The teacher recommends you pause the audio and answer before listening to the answer.  The process builds understanding.

Best of all, everything is free.   You can listen on YouTube, as a podcast, or through the app.

The courses welcome beginners, but they do something more important: they give you a foundation you can build on. Afterward, reading, conversation, and immersion become far more effective.

You can study French, Spanish, Italian, German, Greek, Japanese, Arabic, Turkish, and Swahili.

Over the years, I’ve listened to the French, Spanish, Italian, and German courses. I am currently listening to the Greek series.

What I am reading these days:  These days, mostly I am reading the Spanish book I am working on.  Currently I am writing chapter 13.  

What I am watching these days: Recently watched two movies I recommend.  Solo Mia was a lot of fun.  RomCom for older people, I would say.  I am in my 50’s.  I was surprised by another movie I watched recently.  Bank of Dave tells the story of a man in England who took on the banking system.  I won’t give away the ending, but I will say, I found the movie quite inspiring.  

Language tools I am using right now: At the moment, I am leaning heavily on Dreaming.com for Spanish.  And, I am using Language Transfer for Greek.
