Tip of the Week #360: Stop Waiting in the Long Line

by | Mar 21, 2026 | Tip of the Week

Last week I mentioned GasBuddy.   If you missed it, the short version: it helps you find the cheapest gas near you.   Worth using.   Go here: https://www.gasbuddy.com/

This week, a tip for Costco members.

Honestly, I don’t go to Costco much.   I avoid it.   My wife likes it, though.   She’s the one who told me about this tip.

If you’ve ever filled up at a Costco gas station, you’ve probably noticed something.   The lines on the driver’s side are always longer.   The passenger side is usually several cars shorter.

Here’s the tip.   The hoses are designed to reach around your car.   It doesn’t matter which side your gas tank is on.   Pull into the shorter line, stretch the hose, and you’re done.

Most people just don’t think to do it.

One more Costco note: their return policy.   If you’re making a medium or large purchase, and Costco carries it, it’s often worth buying it there.   They are one of the few places left with a very generous return policy.

What I am reading these days:  Just finished reading First Year Latin by Robert Henle with some students.  The students had a great attitude.  I was impressed.  The book is incredibly boring.  Good resource, though.

Language tools I am using right now: At the moment, I am leaning heavily on Dreaming.com for Spanish.   And, I am using Language Transfer for Greek.   I am starting to review my own recommendation pages on my site, as well.   Time to make some updates.

Almost every Saturday, I send out a Tip of the Week.  The tip of the week is usually something I have picked up along the way that may make your life a little easier.

If you would like to hear from me (almost) every Saturday, just go to the home page of my site and plug in your name and email.   You will also get a free digital copy of my book on learning Latin (and almost anything else).  Just go here: https://dwanethomas.com/ and enter your name and email.

If you want to buy the digital book instead (because you just feel like buying me a cup of coffee) go here: https://dwanethomas.gumroad.com/l/fzixlh

If you are interested in learning Latin, you can go through the classes on my site 24/7.  I recommend the book Lingua Latina by Hans Ørberg.

If you tackle the book and find yourself bogged down, you may find the classes on my site helpful.  To join, just click here: https://dwanethomas.com/join/

If you want a more professionally filmed Latin learning experience, check out the best-selling DVD series: Visual Latin.

Or, if you want to skip Latin, and just jump right into learning English words from Latin and Greek roots, you may enjoy the series Word Up!  Warning.   Word Up! is a bit wacky.  You will learn a lot… but, you may find yourself rolling your eyes, too.

I teach other languages on my site, too.  The current schedule is here: https://dwanethomas.com/schedule/
