We don’t have television or cable service in our home.  We never have.

Now and then my kids will end up watching a show or two at a friends house.  They really like the show, Let’s Make a Deal.

If you have ever seen the show, you know that contestants may win something fantastic, or they may win a “Zonk”.

As you can see in the picture, someone won a llama.  They didn’t win a wad of cash.  They didn’t win a vacation.  They didn’t win a new car.  They won a llama.  They won a “Zonk.”

Zonk has become a household term in my home.

Once, while we were in Greece, we drove around the island of Paros looking for the “Tower of the Hellenistic Period”.  We did this because I just can’t resist historical sites.  We finally found it.

It wasn’t much of a tower.  I didn’t even take a picture of it.  This is from someone else’s blog.

When we arrived at the “tower”, my kids wouldn’t even get out of the car.  They just stared at the “tower”, turned and stared at me, rolled their eyes, and yelled, “Dad!  It’s a zonk!  You brought us all the way out here to look at a zonk!”  Ha!

Sometimes, life rewards you with a zonk.  Sometimes, at the end of the day, all you have are zonks.  But, if you can laugh about it, those zonks may turn into good memories.

My kids still rib me about that day.  Whenever I get a crazy idea, they will ask me… “Is this going to be another “tower of the Hellenistic period, dad?  Is this going to be another zonk?”

Learn to laugh at yourself.  You are going to be disappointed.   You are going to win some zonks.  Roll with it.  Have fun.
