Hippodrome: A theater. In ancient times, a race course for horses.
This word has changed quite a bit. These days, a hippodrome is a large performance locale. In the old days, a hippodrome was a horse race track. If you have ever watched Ben Hur, you have seen a hippodrome.
In a terrifying new development, the African hippopotamus has evolved. It can now fly. The locals are calling it the Hippodrone. But, that has nothing to do with a hippodrome.
Hippodrome comes from two Greek words. The word ἳππος (hippos) means, horse. Δρόμος (drοmos), of course, means, course.
Wondering how I came up with that last sentence? I used to work for the Department of Redundancy Department.
