I haven’t blogged in a few days. Nor have I responded to many emails.
Last Saturday, one of my daughters and I flew to Dublin, Ireland. She is visiting with friends an hour, or so, north of the city, and I am locked up in the cheapest, most Spartan room I could find.
I needed a desk, and a bed. And, that is what I got. No TV, no radio, no microwave, no distractions. It’s perfect.
If you are ever in Dublin, and you need a cheap, quiet place so that you can create a bunch of tests for Second Year Latin by Robert Henle, then this may be the place for you: https://www.booking.com/hotel/ie/trinity-hall-suburban-accommodation.html. Or, maybe you just need a cheap, quiet place. Either way.
To fight jet lag, and to get to know the city at the same time, I have signed up for several walking tours on AirBnB. As I am about a 45 minute walk from the city center, I’ve been walking quite a bit. I hope walking is good for combating jet lag. Seems to be helping.
One thing has made me very happy. My allergy troubles disappeared within 12 hours of landing in Dublin. For weeks, in Tennessee, I have been sneezing, coughing, and sniffing my way through life. Those of you in my classes know this well.
I haven’t spent the month of May in Tennessee in three years. I had forgotten how bad it gets for those who suffer from allergies. I suspected I was simply sick. Now that I have been in cool, overcast, rainy Dublin, I know the problem was Tennessee.
When the school year ends, the focus of my website shifts. I like to focus less on Latin, and more on “thinking outside the border”. So, even though I will be writing tests for the Second Year Latin class this summer, I will try to take some of the focus off Latin.
My kids are all talented photographers. Seriously. All of them. Not sure who they got it from. While I am over here, I am trying to learn photography. I am basically learning by pointing and shooting. I really have no idea what I am doing. Nonetheless, I will post my photos here on my site. Because… I just don’t get Instagram. Sigh.
This is one of the streets I am walking down everyday. Notice the complete lack of pollen? Makes me happy.
Well, that’s it for now. I found a coffee shop today that made me happy. I have a mountain of emails to answer. I will be sitting there all day tomorrow. So, if you are waiting for a response from me, you will hear from me soon.
