I recently finished writing a book about working online.  In it, I hope to show other teachers how to make a living online.

While writing the book, I researched dozens of paths.

I have been earning my living online since 2011. After all this time, I believe one of the best ways to make some extra money online is to pick a topic you love, go all in, become an expert, and start a blog on the topic.  Not necessarily in that order, by the way.  You can blog your way into expert status.

A student of mine has recently done just that.

Amelia was looking for good, wholesome, thoughtful material for young people to read online.  I know.  In 2023.  Ambitious.

She did not find what she was looking for… and so she decided to start her own thing.  I love that approach.

The goal of her site, ThreeThingsMagazine.com is to aid and abet young adults striving to live authentically human lives amid a prevalent culture of mediocrity.

That’s probably what sold me.  I am anti-mediocrity.  Don’t get me wrong.  Mediocrity happens.  I get it.  For example, I am a mediocre French speaker at best.  But, being content with mediocrity?  That is tough for me.

If I drove a Ferrari, I would not want to sit in a school pick up line.  I’d want to race it on the interstates of Montana.  In my mind, God has given most of us Ferrari brains and bodies.  And, we should put the pedal to the metal.

I have to admit it.  Amelia is smarter than I am.  On my site, I write it all.  If there is a blog post up, I put it there.  Often, during busy seasons, I do not blog for days, or even weeks.

Amelia, on the other hand, is calling for writers right off the start.  How brilliant is that?

She did exactly what I am encouraging people to do in the new book.  Go.  Do something.  Take action.

Do not wait to start until you have it all figured out.  Do that and you will never start.  Imitate Amelia.  If you see a need, fill it.

Until you do, though, go check out her site: threethingsmagazine.com.

Maybe you will find yourself inspired!

Almost every Saturday, I send out a Tip of the Week.  The tip of the week is usually something I have picked up along the way that may make your life a little easier.  If you would like to hear from me (almost) every Saturday, just go to the home page of my site and plug in your name and email.   You will also get a free digital copy of my book on learning Latin (and almost anything else).  Just go here: https://dwanethomas.com/

If you want to buy the digital book instead (because you just feel like buying me a cup of coffee) go here: https://dwanethomas.gumroad.com/l/fzixlh

If you are interested in learning Latin, you can go through the classes on my site 24/7.  I recommend the book Lingua Latina by Hans Ørberg.  If you tackle the book and find yourself bogged down, you may find the classes on my site helpful.  To join, just click here: https://dwanethomas.com/join/

If you want a more professionally filmed experience, check out the best-selling DVD series: Visual Latin.

Or, if you want to skip Latin, and just jump right into learning English words from Latin and Greek roots, you may enjoy the series Word Up!  Warning.   Word Up! is a bit wacky.  You will learn a lot… but, you may find yourself rolling your eyes, too.
I teach other languages on my site, too.  The current schedule is here: https://dwanethomas.com/live-classes/
